Sparkle Words

Today, students practiced using "sparkle words" to replace "said". A "sparkle" word is a more specific word to describe something. For example, using exclaim, shout, or whisper instead of said. Ask your child what word they used to replace "said". Try helping your child replace some words with "sparkle" words in their writing tonight!

Area and Research Clubs

Hello families! Please remember we are going skating on Friday afternoon. Students need helmets, coats, snow pants, and boots.

We also have a busy week next week: Monday is an early release day, Wednesday is Fine Arts Night, Friday is Flynn Field Trip as a heads up!

We have been working so hard in third grade this week to understand area and its relationship to multiplication. We got to find the area of different objects around our classroom using construction paper square units. Today we talked about standard units of measurement for area including square inches, square feet, and square yards. Students are starting to understanding how they can use their knowledge of length and width to determine total area using multiplication.

We also launched nonfiction research clubs this week and we are having a BLAST! Students are working hard to synthesize information across texts and read about a topic from multiple sources. Ask your child what animal they are becoming an expert on!
